About The Event
Operation Clean Sweep at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery is Saturday, Jan. 28th, at 9:00am. This is to remove the approximately 44,000 Wreaths Across America wreaths that were placed there in December rather than burdening the IGNC staff to clean up.
From Beth at WAA/IGNC: **Please read below in its entirety to be sure the event runs smoothly and safely for all.**
“Volunteers are needed to operate in an organized process to remove all WAA wreaths from the Cemetery and move them where they will be picked up for recycling. Again this year, we are blessed to have Zwicky Processing & Recycling provide dumpsters and recycling of wreaths. It usually takes just a couple hours, and can be weather dependent.
Due to parking limitations there is no parking at the cemetery as to limit damage and keep the cemetery roads clear for dump trucks and trailers. There will be one shuttle bus running beginning at 8:30am from a place TBD to transport volunteers. DO NOT park at Snitz Creek Brewery, they are great supporters but have limited parking for customers as it is. There is no ceremony but there is a Briefing at 9am for EVERYONE at the parking lot above the Memorial “building”, even if you have done it before. If you arrive late, please also report to the parking lot for sign in and directions. They need low-profile dump trucks, dump trailers, and only those trucks with low and long beds. DO NOT bring tri-axle trucks or pickup trucks. Absolutely no ATV’s or motorized trail vehicles. Volunteers should dress for the weather. PLEASE BRING long handled brooms, rakes, tarps, plastic toboggans/sleds to collect the wreaths. This is a very physical project so use your judgment when coming out to participate. Do not bring pets or animals, only Service dogs are allowed on cemetery grounds.”
I will provide any additional information as it becomes available. If you have any questions let me know. Thank you!
